MEET KATY & KODY

Hello! I (Katy) am the one behind the keyboard, writing our thoughts on this crazy process. My husband and I are on a quest for home. What I'd like to call a forever home. I don't envision us doing move after move, project after project, trying to improve surroundings that we've settled for. Instead, I know I've worked hard; I want to create my dream surroundings and just enjoy living in it. For many, many years. Easier said than done I suppose.

With that said, we are launching Millennials Making Modern. A blog and YouTube segment highlighting this journey. If you'd like to watch, here's our introduction video:

Long story short, we have no idea what we are doing. Building a home is even more mystifying than buying, and all the decisions can seem rushed. In the meantime, I'll be doing my own research - on home technologies, innovations, products, brands, so that I can come in educated when it's time to make those decisions for ourselves. I'll be iterating in CAD on our floor-plans on our own. I'll be reading books of what to do and what not to do. But let's be real. So much of this will be trial and error. I'm very much a dreamer and like to plan out everything until I know I'm ready. But we are going for it - it's time to execute on our goals. I could plan this for years and years before I said I'm 'ready'. But here we are ---- wish us luck!!

As many know, the market is not ideal to build. With the pandemic, global disputes, and supply chain issues, prices are sky rocketing and volatile, and the low inventory housing market has builders spread thin. Here's the deal. This is my life goal. I feel ready for it and it's happening. We're going to march forward with the land, site plans, and if for some reason there's a pause- it is what it is! At least all the prep and plans are there.

I remember it to this day. I showed an inspiration photo to a colleague of the house I wanted to build. Not in a malicious way, but he laughed and teased that I'd need to come back to reality. That triggered something in me. I spent the whole Christmas break that year putting numbers to how much we'd need to save and how long. I pitched it to Kody and he went for it - we were all in. Actually, before even knowing what the word 'manifesting' meant, that's exactly what my mindset was. I recall years ago saying "I want to build one day" and after that happened to me, I started telling people "I AM building" and could actually put a timeframe to it.

We changed everything - our financial strategy, stopped going out to eat or on trips. But more on that later. It wasn't until late 2021 when Kody and I had enough saved where we were confident to seriously search for the land. We've casually looked for years thinking if the dream lot came up for sale, we'd snag it. And nothing ever did. For years. Nothing that checked all the boxes.

We were driving to a local park for our three year wedding anniversary in Sept. '21, when we drove through a gorgeous area. And that's when we knew. This is the area we want to live. So I zeroed in and spent hours and hours driving those back roads, looking for off market properties to reach out to the owners and looking for for-sale-by-owner lots.

Long story short, once I launched that search I was repeatedly seeing 11:11, 4:44, etc. Then I knew in my soul this was the path we were supposed to be on.

Now it's time to execute - to give up on 'I'm not ready' and just jump in.
